The Perth Mint has gained an excellent reputation for its minting standards since it was established in 1899 and is one of the world’s leading producers of bullion. The Australian Emu bullion coin was introduced by the mint in 2018 in silver with the gold version introduced in 2019. The design changes annually which adds to its appeal.

The emu is a large flightless bird native to Australia, standing between 1.5 and 1.9 metres tall. Emus are also known for their speed, reaching up to 50 kilometres per hour. They are iconic symbols of Australia, embodying adaptability, speed and cultural importance.

The reverse of the Australian Emu 1oz Silver Coin 2023, designed by Sean Rogers, showcases the beautiful emu with its three chicks on rugged outback terrain that extends out to the sides of the lower half of the coin. The inscription above reads 'AUSTRALIAN EMU' and details of the coin's weight and purity are displayed within the imagery. The mintmark 'P' signifies The Perth Mint. Additionally, the coin features a security element consisting of a micro-laser engraved letter, detectable only under magnification.

The coin displays the official Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse, showcasing the Jody Clark effigy alongside the span of Her Majesty’s reign, denoted as ‘1952 – 2022’. Additionally, the coin's monetary value is indicated, which is one Australian dollar.

The Australian Emu 1oz Silver Coin 2023 contains 1 troy ounce of 999.9 fine silver, with a metric weight of 31.10 grams. It measures 40.60 mm in diameter and has a thickness of 4.00 mm. It has a face value of one Australian Dollar and a mintage of 30,000 coins. The 2023 Emu bullion coin is available in 1oz and ½ gram in gold. The ½ gram is called the Mini Money Emu and has a limited mintage of 5,000.

Being a beloved symbol of Australia worldwide, the Emu carries enduring charm, making the coin a sought-after asset for collectors and investors alike. Renowned for its outstanding quality and fortified with the advanced security measure, it stands as a potentially reliable choice in the market.
