Perth Mint

The Perth Mint, situated in East Perth, Western Australia, is the official bullion mint of Australia and is owned by the Government of Western Australia. It was founded in 1899 originally as one of the colonial branches of the UK's Royal Mint.
The Kangaroo bullion coin actually began as the Gold Nugget in 1986 but having realised the appeal of the world’s most famed marsupial, the kangaroo, the Perth Mint have produced the coin with an annually changing image of the kangaroo since 1990. In February 2012 the Perth Mint introduced the 1 ton (1012 kg) Kangaroo Gold Coin to promote the Kangaroo Bullion series, the coin has a face value of AUS$1 million and a purity of 99.99 percent. It has been a permanent feature of the Perth Mint’s Gold Exhibition since its promotional world tour.
Reverse
The motif on the reverse of the 2023 coin shows an adult kangaroo looking over its shoulder towards a eucalyptus tree in the background. It is inscribed with the word ‘Kangaroo’ plus the weight and purity of the coin. The letter P is also shown on the reverse as it is the mintmark of the Perth Mint.
Obverse
The obverse of the coin displays Jody Clark’s Queen Elizabeth II memorial portrait and the years of her reign ‘1952-2022’.
Security Features
For added security the coin has a micro laser engraved authentication feature which is only detectable under a magnifying glass.

The Australian Kangaroo 1oz Gold Coin 2023 is minted from 1 troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold with a metric weight of 31.10 grams. It measures 32.10 mm in diameter and has a denomination of AUD $100. The 2023 Kangaroo bullion coin is also available as a ½ oz, ¼ oz and 1/10 oz in gold and 1oz in silver.
