Münze Österreich
The Austrian Mint is over 825 years in operation and mints a large variety of high-quality gold and silver coins and bars. The most popular is the Vienna Philharmonic series.
The Austrian Mint, officially known as Münze Österreich AG, is one of the world's oldest and most respected mints, with a history dating back over 800 years. Established in 1194, the mint was initially created to produce coins from the silver ransom paid for the release of Richard the Lionheart, King of England. Located in Vienna, it has a longstanding tradition of craftsmanship and innovation.
The Vienna Philharmonic Gold Coin was introduced in 1989, during a time of increasing global demand for gold bullion coins. It was designed to provide investors with a reliable and prestigious option for investing in physical gold. Building on the success of the gold coin, the Austrian Mint expanded the series by launching the Silver Vienna Philharmonic Coin in 2008.
The obverse of the Vienna Philharmonic 1 oz Silver Coin 2024 features the famous Great Organ located in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. Built in 1870 by Danish architect Theophil Hansen, the hall is the performance venue of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The inscription reads "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH" (Republic of Austria) and includes the weight of the coin, its purity and the year of issue. The face value is displayed as “1,50 EURO” and the coin is recognised as legal tender.
The reverse was designed by Thomas Pesendorfer and showcases a collection of classical instruments from the orchestra which include a cello, four violins, a bassoon, a harp and a Viennese horn. The inscription reads "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" (Vienna Philharmonic) with “SILBER” underneath.
The coin contains 1 troy ounce of 999/1000 fine silver which is equivalent to 31.10 grams. It measures 37.00 mm in diameter and has a thickness of 3.20 mm. The Vienna Philharmonic bullion coin is also available in weights of 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz and 1/25 oz in gold.
The Vienna Philharmonic Silver Coin is renowned for its exquisite design and cultural importance, honouring the prestigious Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Its blend of artistic elegance and investment-grade quality makes it a sought-after option for both collectors and investors.
