The koala, a tree-dwelling marsupial native to Australia, is recognised by its large, fluffy ears, prominent black nose and round face. Koalas are arboreal, spending most of their time in eucalyptus trees, which serve as both their habitat and primary food source.
The reverse of the Koala 1 Kilo Silver Coin 2020 features a koala holding onto the top of a branch. The surrounding legend reads 'AUSTRALIAN KOALA,' with the coin's year of issue, weight and purity inscribed below. The letter 'P' denotes The Perth Mint as the mintmark. The designer Ing Ing Jong's initials, 'IJ,' are subtly etched onto the koala’s top paw.
A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, by celebrated artist Jody Clark, is displayed on the obverse and is encircled by the inscriptions ‘ELIZABETH II’, ‘AUSTRALIA’, and the coin's monetary denomination of ‘30 DOLLARS’. The coin is legal tender in Australia.
