The Kookaburra 1 Kilo Silver Coin 2020, from the Perth Mint in Australia, features the native kookaburra bird, known for its distinctive laughing call. The reverse of the coin, designed by Jennifer McKenna, showcases the kookaburra perched on a rooftop with its beak open mid-call, surrounded by rays of light as the sun rises in the background. This design commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Kookaburra coin series, with the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA 30TH ANNIVERSARY,’ the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and details of the coin’s weight and purity. Additionally, a micro-laser engraved letter, visible only under magnification, serves as a security feature to protect the coin from counterfeiting.

On the obverse, Stuart Devlin's depiction of a kookaburra on a tree stump surrounded by native foliage, originally featured on the 1990 coin, is enclosed within a circle. Above this design, the years 1990 and 2020 are inscribed, with Jody Clark’s miniature effigy of Queen Elizabeth II between them and overlapping into the legend, which reads, ‘ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA ᐧ 30 DOLLARS ᐧ’. The coin has a face value of thirty Australian dollars and is recognised as legal tender.

The Kookaburra 1 Kilo Silver Coin 2020 contains one kilo of 999.9/1000 fine silver, weighing 32.151 troy ounces and measuring 100.60 mm in diameter with a thickness of 14.60 mm. The 2020 design is also available in 10oz and 1oz in silver, as well as 1/10oz in fine gold.

The Kookaburra coin has potential as a strong investment due to its high purity, limited mintage, and legal tender status in Australia. Its unique, annually changing designs enhance its collectibility, attracting premiums from collectors. The coin's historical performance and the intrinsic value of its silver content further contribute to its appeal for both investors and collectors.
