Design
The motif side of the coin shows a Dragon, which is the most powerful mythical creature in Chinese culture. The Dragon is depicted chasing a flaming pearl believed to have the mystical power to grant people their wishes. Historically, the Dragon was closely linked to the Chinese Emperor and was a symbol of imperial power. Other than the motif, the only engraving is the letter “P”, which represents the Perth Mint.
The value side depicts the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with crown. Below the portrait are the initials “IRB”, which represent artist and engraver Ian Rank-Broadley. The engravings across the top outer edge read “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA 1 OZ 9999 Ag”. The date of issue “2018” and face value “1 DOLLAR” can be seen on the bottom.
