The “Angel” is the official gold coin from the Isle of Man. The series was first introduced in proof version in 1984 and from 1985 was issued in bullion. The coin had a purity of .999 gold until 1993 and was increased to 24 karat gold (999.9/1000) from 1994.
Originally modeled after a French coin, the English “Angel” Gold coin was first released under Edward IV in 1465. The name of the coin was derived from the St. Michael the Archangel design.

Design Highlights
The motif side of the coin depicts the iconic image of St. Michael the Archangel slaying the dragon. The name “ANGEL” is inscripted on the bottom outer edge. The weight and purity can be seen below the motif. There is also an ornamental circle that surrounds the outer edge which adds to the beauty of the design
The reverse side depicts the portrait of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait of the Queen will be slightly different depending on the year of issue. The lettering around the outer edge is the name of the regent “ELIZABETH II”, the country of origin “ISLE OF MAN” and the date of issue.
