The 2023 issue of the “Somalia Elephant” gold coin, from the “African Wildlife” series, is another premium gold coin minted by the Bavarian State Mint in Munich. The series was introduced in 1999 and the Somali elephant first appeared in gold in 2008. The Somalia Elephant gold coins depict one or more elephants in their natural environment.
The Somalia Elephant 1oz Gold Coin 2023 is 99.99% pure and has a diameter of 38.7 mm. With the 2023 edition, the mint once again demonstrates that it is a master of its craft. The play of light and shadow and the perspective make the motif appear as if you were standing next to the elephant.
On the motif side you can see an elephant eating in the morning sun. The elephant's head extends out from the edge of the coin to the centre and it reaches up with its trunk wrapped around a branch. The inscription is like the other issues "AFRICAN WILDLIFE" "ELEPHANT" and "1 oz Au 999.9". The elephant's ear covers part of the second "E" and "P" in the word "ELEPHANT".
The reverse shows the official coat of arms of Somalia, adopted in 1956. Also displayed are the country of origin "SOMALIA REPUBLIC", the year of issue with "20" to the left and "23" to the right of the coat of arms, and a decorative circle made of dots inside the rim.
The denomination "1000 SHILLINGS" is embossed around the outer edge of the coin.
Due to the annually changing and very appealing animal motif, the Somalia Elephant series has become very popular. Some of the previous years have achieved great.
