The Somalia Elephant 1oz Gold Coin 2021, minted by the Bavarian Mint in Munich, has a single bull elephant on the front in the 2021 edition. It has a fineness of 99.99% and is therefore one of the purest gold coins available. The Somalia Elephant is part of the “African Wildlife” series and is very popular with both investors and collectors.
The motif side shows an impressive front view of a bull elephant looking for shade under a tree. The motif appears very life-like as it has been embossed three-dimensionally with great detail. The elephant's trunk protrudes into the offset edge, which looks as if the elephant is sticking out of the coin. In the background you can see part of the African savannah and above the elephant's head a large branch of a tree. The inscriptions “AFRICAN WILDLIFE”, “ELEPHANT” and “1 oz Au 999.9” can be seen all around the inside edge of the coin.
The value side shows the Somali national coat of arms which consists of two leopards standing upright holding a shield, one to its left and the other to the right. The leopards stand on two crossed spears decorated with palm fronds and draped with a banner. The image is surrounded by a dotted border. Split either side of the coat of arms is the year of issue “20 21”, the country of issue “SOMALI REPUBLIC” and the face value “1,000 SHILLINGS” are also shown.
The Somalia Elephant design remains ever popular with collectors due to the beautiful images and charming subject. The quality of production and well regarded reputation of the Bavarian Mint also plays a part and ensures that it also has potential as an investment coin.
