The Bavarian Mint has been producing circulating and investment coins for over 850 years. They also produce the Somalia Elephant series.
The Somalia Elephant Gold Coin series was first issued in 2010 and followed the very successful silver version, which was launched in 2004. The 2016 yearly issue of the Somalia Elephant Gold coin has a purity of 99.99% gold. The previous editions before 2016 have a fineness of 99.9% gold. All of the Somalia Elephant Gold coin are produced by the Bavarian Mint in Munich.
Appearance
The motif page of the 2016 Somalia Elephant 1 ounce gold coin shows a large male elephant with his truck raised running in the Savannah. Below the elephant is natural landscape showing a grass field and a river bank with acacia trees against a setting sun. The smooth background finish highlights the incredible detail in the design.
The value page shows the state emblem of Somalia, which is represented by a five-pointed star on a shield with a five-pointed crown. The shield is held by two leopards, each standing on two crossed spears and palm fronds. The inscription on the top outer edge is "SOMALI REPUBLIC". The year of mintage is in the middle to the left and right shown as "20" and "16. The lower edge of the coin is marked with the nominal value "1,000 SHILLINGS".
