The "African Wildlife" series with the "Somali Elephant” motif has been issued in silver since 2004. In 2010, the gold edition was released with a weight of 1 oz and a diameter of 38.7mm. The Somali Elephant 1oz Gold Coin is 99.9% pure gold with a nominal value of 1,000 Somali Shillings. Every year features a new design of the iconic African Elephant.

Due to the annual design changes, the Somalia Elephant gold coin has achieved global popularity with both investors and collectors. Some of the past yearly editions have grown in value.

Design / Appearance

Motif:

On the motif side of the 2014 Somalia Elephant 1oz Gold Coin, an elephant family consisting of bull, dam, and baby is depicted walking in the grass of the African savannah with the setting sun in the background. The baby is being nursed by the mother. "AFRICAN WILDLIFE ● ELEPHANT ● 1oz Au 999" is the inscription in the remote edge area.

Value:

The value side of the Somalia Elephant is consistent with the other editions in the series and shows the state emblem of the Republic of Somalia. In addition to the coat of arms, the value side depicts the year of issue "2014", the country of origin "SOMALI REPUBLIC" and the nominal value "1,000 SHILLINGS". An ornamental circle of dots surrounds the edge bar.
