The Somalia Elephant 1 oz Gold coin made its debut in 2010 and follows the highly successful Somalia Silver coin which was first minted in 2004. The series features yearly design changes, but will always depict an elephant motif in its natural environment.
This 2010 Somali 1 ounce elephant gold coin is the first issue of the series. These 99.9% pure gold coins have beautiful designs, and are sought after by collectors as well as investors. The motif of the 2010 Somali Elephant 1 oz gold coin shows a single elephant wading on the shore. In the background you can see an acacia tree and other steppe animals drinking water on the shore. There are also six birds flying in the air behind the elephant. In the remote border area the inscription "AFRICAN WILDLIFE ● ELEPHANT ● 1oz Au 999" is shown.

The value page depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of Somalia. The coat of arms shows the flag of Somalia with a five-pointed star in the center. Leopards are shown on either side of the coats of arms, standing on crossed spears. Around the spears lies a ribbon and green palm.
The coat of arms is framed on the left and right by the numbers "20" and "10". The issuing country "SOMALI REPUBLIC" is displayed above the coat of arms. The face value "1000 Shillings" is below the coat of arms. The edge bar is decorated with a circle of dots.
