The United States Mint is a division of the Department of the Treasury tasked with producing the nation’s coinage. It was created by the Coinage Act of 1792 and started operations in 1793. The original minting facility was located in Philadelphia, which was the U.S. capital at the time. Over the years, the Mint has grown and established additional facilities in cities such as Denver, San Francisco, and West Point.

The current design of the 1 oz American Eagle Gold Coin, first introduced in 2021 and created by Jennie Norris, presents a striking close-up of a bald eagle’s head. The finely detailed portrait captures the bird’s intense gaze and commanding presence, symbolising the strength and freedom of the United States. Surrounding the image are the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” together with the coin’s weight and denomination. Seven small stars are also featured in the design. With a face value of 50 dollars, the coin is officially recognised as legal tender in the US.

The obverse side of the coin showcases Lady Liberty in a powerful, forward stride as the sun rises behind her, casting its rays over the US Capitol building. A timeless symbol of freedom and progress, she holds a torch to signify enlightenment and an olive branch as a symbol of peace. The word “LIBERTY” is inscribed above her, while the year “2025” appears to her right. Encircling the design are fifty small stars, each representing one of the United States.

The American Eagle 1oz Gold Coin 2025 contains 1 troy ounce of gold with a purity of 916/1000 which is 22 karats. It has a metric fine weight of 31.10 grams and measures 32.70 mm in diameter with a thickness of 2.75 mm. The American Eagle bullion coin is also available in weights of ½ oz, ¼ oz and 1/10 oz in gold and 1 oz in silver.

The American Eagle bullion coins are renowned for their outstanding quality and striking depiction of the bald eagle. Their lower gold purity makes them more durable and resistant to wear compared to higher-purity gold coins. Highly sought after by collectors, they also appeal to investors as a reliable and visually impressive option.
