The design of the American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin 2022 was introduced the previous year with Jennie Norris creating this stunning version of a detailed portrait of an eagle’s head. The inscriptions in the legend read " ★★★ UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ★★★" and “50 DOLLARS ★ 1 OZ. FINE GOLD”. Above the eagle’s head are the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST".
The obverse of the coin depicts Lady Liberty walking confidently at the break of a new day, with the sun’s rays and the US Capitol building in the background. Lady Liberty carries a torch symbolising enlightenment and an olive branch for peace. She represents progress and freedom and above her is the word “LIBERTY”. The year “2022” is displayed on the right. Encircling the rim are fifty small stars, one for each of the 50 states of North America.
The American Eagle 1oz Gold Coin 2022 contains 1 troy ounce of 916/1000 gold, which is equivalent to 22 karats with a metric fine weight of 31.10 grams. It measures 32.70 mm in diameter and has a thickness of 2.75 mm. The American Eagle bullion coin is also available in weights of ½ oz, ¼ oz and 1/10 oz in gold and 1 oz in silver.
