Design Highlights
The front side depicts a portrait of Lady Liberty with the word “LIBERTY” engraved on her coronet. There are also 13 stars that surround the outer edge.
The reverse side shows a bald eagle with outstretched wings. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is inscripted around the outer edge. The nominal value of “TEN D” can be seen below.
There are two slightly different versions of the reverse side of the coin. The $10 Liberty Head minted from 1866-1907 will show the motto “In God We Trust” above the eagle. Pre-1866 versions will not have this motto. Also, the 1838-1839 version will show a slightly different portrait of Lady Liberty, however, this edition is very rare.
