Introduced in 1967, the Krugerrand was one of the first gold bullion coins issued for the private investor. The Krugerrand was so successful that by 1980 it accounted for 90% of the global gold coin market.
The 1995 yearly issue had a limited mintage of approximately 58,630 coins. Production numbers of the Krugerrand declined in the late 1980’s and the 1990’s because of the apartheid policy of the South African Government.
