Rand Refinery
Rand Refinery (Pty) Ltd, based in Germiston, South Africa, was founded in 1920 by the Chamber of Mines. It is the world’s largest integrated single-site precious metals refining and smelting complex.
Its main function is the refining of raw gold to a purity of at least 99.5%, which is then used for cast or minted bar products, or as raw material for the production of Krugerrand coins.
The refinery is one of only five LBMA Good Delivery Referees worldwide – a mark of excellence that certifies the highest standards in quality, purity, and responsible sourcing.

The Krugerrand is one of the most recognized gold coins in the world. The 1967 edition was the first coin released in the series with a mintage of just 40,000 coins. Since its introduction, over 50 million ounces of Gold Krugerrands have been sold worldwide.

The design of the Krugerrand has remained consistent since it was first released in 1967. The front side depicts the left side portrait of South African Statesman Paul Kruger.

The reverse shows the Springbok Antelope, which is the national animal of South Africa. The year of issue is engraved as “19” to the left of the antelope and “67” on the right side.
