The 20 Lire Carlo Alberto gold coin was minted from 1831-1849, during the reign of King Carlo Alberto (Charles Albert) of Sardinia. The 20 lire Sardinia gold coin has a purity of 90% gold and a weight of .1867 ounces.

Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. With the unification of Italy in 1861, Sardinia became part of Italy.

Design Highlights

  • The front side of the coin depicts the portrait of King Carlo Alberto. The inscriptions around the outer edge read “CAR. ALBERTVS D G REX SARD CYP ET HIER”. The date of issue is below the portrait of the King.

  • The reverse side shows a crowned shield with a cross in the center. The shield is surrounded by a oak leaves. The nominal value is engraved as “L 20” and is below the shield.
