Chinese characters are shown at the top reading "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue “2002“ is shown at the base under the Temple design.
As for 2001 one adult Panda walking through a bamboo grove on all four paws. Showing below the panda motif are shown the nominal value of “500” and the sign for Yuan. Above the panda head are shown characters incorporating size “1oz, Au” and purity “.999”. The coin does not have a raised defined edge as before.
A total of 28,345 coins were minted.
The 2002 1 oz coin has 32mm diameter.
It has a thickness of 2.70mm.
