The Royal Canadian Mint, headquartered in Ottawa, is responsible for minting Canada’s circulating and commemorative coins. Established in 1908, it operates as a Crown corporation, playing a key role in the nation’s financial system while exemplifying Canadian artistry and technical expertise. In addition to coin production, the Mint is internationally renowned for its proficiency in refining precious metals and crafting premium numismatic items. By implementing cutting-edge security measures and innovative designs, it upholds the integrity of Canada’s currency while celebrating the country’s heritage through meticulously crafted coinage.
Introduced in 1979, the Canadian Maple Leaf gold coin has become one of the most highly regarded bullion coins worldwide. Its instantly recognisable design, combined with its gold purity, has cemented its status among investors and collectors. Over time, subtle modifications have been made to its design, with the most significant enhancements focusing on security features to protect against counterfeiting.
The Maple Leaf 1oz Gold Coin 2025 showcases the Canadian maple leaf on the reverse. The intricate design captures the delicate details of the leaf’s veins, highlighting the artistry and craftsmanship behind the coin. Designed with precision, the micro-engraving not only enhances its visual appeal but also serves as a key security feature, reinforcing its authenticity and anti-counterfeiting measures. The original design was created by Walter Ott, a distinguished artist and former Master Engraver at the Royal Canadian Mint. Ott’s design captures the natural beauty of Canada’s national symbol, the maple leaf, with simplicity and elegance.
The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, depicted without a crown and wearing a suit and tie. This effigy was designed by Canadian artist Steven Rosati, an award-winning portraitist and member of the Portrait Society of Canada. Rosati’s initials “SR” are subtly placed on the King’s lapel.
Both sides of the coin incorporate two unique security features which include radial lines in the background of the image plus Bullion DNA (TM) Anti‑Counterfeiting Technology.
