The "The Birds of Paradise" series started in 2018 with the Victoria Bird of Paradise. The 2019 issue shows the Manucodia, which is a bird of paradise native to New Guinea. The coin has a limited mintage of only 5,000 pieces, which makes it ideal for both collectors and investors.

The Manucodia live in the forests of New Guinea and nearby islands. Their appearance resembles that of the magpies but with a shorter tail. They are completely black with a metallic iridescent glow from blue-green to bronze. They are known for their distinctive song resembling that of a wind instrument.

Product Specifications

The "Manucodia" Bird of Paradise gold coin 2019 is stamped in the traditional 1 ounce size and consists of 99.99% pure gold. The coin is also available in silver.

Diameter: 32.6 mm

Thickness: 2.40 mm

Nominal value: 100 dollars

Appearance

The motif side of the coin shows a singing manucode bird of paradise perched on a branch with three leaves. The design of the coin image is very detailed and protrudes from the demarcated area onto the edge, which makes the image come alive. The inscription in the optically offset border area in the upper part reads "AUSTRALIAN BIRD OF PARADISE". The weight and purity "1oz 9999 GOLD" are imprinted in the lower area. The letter "P" is engraved below the branch and stands for the Perth Mint.

The value page shows the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The design is by Jody Clark, whose initials "JC" are engraved on the shoulder of the Queen. The inscriptions on the outer edge read "ELIZABETH II 2019 AUSTRALIA ● 100 DOLLARS".

Birds of Paradise

Birds of paradise belong to the order of passerine birds. There are 43 known species of birds of paradise. Historically, the birds of paradise are associated with the island of New Guinea because some species of birds of paradise originate from the northeast of Australia, where New Guinea was once physically linked to the Australian continent.
