The 2004 1oz gold coin from the highly regarded Perth Mint, in Australia. Producing high quality cold coins since 1889. They have made themselves well known worldwide for their beautifully crafted coins, with yearly changing designs.
They first published the Gold Nugget in 1986 due to the South African Krugerrand import ban. In 1989 the image on the coin changed to that of a Kangaroo, making it more recognisable as a product of Australia, and bit more marketable for collectors as animal images are relatively popular.
All coins are packaged individually in a durable acrylic case to protect it from rough handling. To underpin the supplementary collectability of Australian gold bullion coins, a maximum mintage is declared for nominated sizes at the beginning of each year. The 2004 coin has a mintage of 61,278 coins.
Design/Appearance
This 1 oz coin features a and adult and joey kangaroo hopping forward in unison. Inscribed around the edge of the coin is ‘The Australian Nugget’ Along with the year, and denomination, and purity.
The obverse features a right facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Raphael Maklouf.
