From the highly regarded Perth Mint. The Australian Nugget/ Gold Kangaroo has become some of the most popular gold coins on the market. Australia started producing their own gold coins in 1986 after the Krugerrand import ban. Initially the coins featured designs of the famous gold nuggets found on the continent. From 1990 the design changed to that of the Kangaroo, which made it more recognisable as a coin from Australia. It also makes it more appealing to investors and collectors, as the coins are beautifully designed, and it’s one of the few coins which image changes yearly.
Design/Appearance
The 1992 Gold Kangaroo features the side profile of Common Wallaroo facing right. With the name inscribed below. Around the border of the coin is the engraving ‘The Australian Nugget’ along with the year, and weight. The Wallaroo is part of the macropod family, and is smaller than a Kangaroo, and larger and a Wallaby.
The obverse of the coin features a right facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, which was designed by sculptor Raphael Maklouf.
