🇸🇴 Somalia Elephant 2018 – 1 kg Silver Coin – African Wildlife in a Large-Format Minting
The Somalia Elephant 2018 – 1 kg silver coin belongs to the well-known African Wildlife series, which presents African elephants in annually changing designs. This coin program combines nature-inspired motifs with modern minting techniques and is recognized for its clear visual language. The kilogram edition transfers the familiar motif into a particularly generous format, offering extensive space for fine details and a calm, balanced visual effect.
The obverse features the coat of arms of Somalia. A shield with a star is supported by two leopards, with crossed spears and palm fronds below. Surrounding inscriptions indicate the issuing country, the denomination, and the year of issue 2018. The depiction is clearly structured and precisely modeled. The restrained design of the value side allows the large silver surface to remain visible, creating a balanced and orderly overall appearance.
The reverse shows the elephant as the central motif of the series. In the 2018 issue, the animal appears in a nature-inspired scene, depicting the elephant within its environment. The powerful body, the characteristic trunk, and the distinct contours are carefully detailed. The fine textures of the skin give the relief a sculptural depth. The background remains deliberately restrained, allowing the elephant to stand clearly at the center and unfold its presence through form and proportion.
Due to the large surface of the 1 kg denomination, the motif becomes particularly detailed and visible. Light and shadow glide calmly across the relief, emphasizing the texture of the surface. Along the rim of the design side appear the inscriptions AFRICAN WILDLIFE and ELEPHANT, as well as 1 kg Ag 999.9, indicating the weight and fineness of the precious metal.
The coin is composed of 1 kilogram of fine silver with a purity of 999.9. The surface appears calm and even, while the relief heights are clearly defined. The bright silver enhances the sculptural effect of the design without overwhelming the motif. The cleanly minted rim forms a harmonious finish to the coin.
The African Wildlife – Elephant series is known for its annually changing elephant motifs, combining nature depiction with modern minting craftsmanship. Each issue presents a new interpretation of the animal while preserving the distinct style of the series.
The Somalia Elephant 2018 – 1 kg silver coin unites the impressive presence of a large silver piece with a detailed depiction of African wildlife. The elephant appears as a powerful yet calm symbol of the savanna, minted in silver and designed with clarity, structure, and timeless expression.
