The Queen's Beasts Yale of Beaufort 2oz silver coin is a part of a series of coins produced by the Royal Mint in the United Kingdom. This series features designs representing the ten heraldic statues that stood guard at the coronation ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Each coin in the series depicts one of these mythical creatures, symbolising different aspects of British royal history and heritage.
The Yale is one of these creatures and is depicted on the reverse of the Yale of Beaufort 2oz Silver Coin 2019 as a mythical beast that resembles a mixture of a goat, an antelope and a lion, with large horns, cloven hooves and a muscular body. Designed by renowned artist Jody Clark, it captures the powerful and regal creature, embodying qualities of strength, courage, and resilience.
The obverse of the coin displays a low relief portrait of Elizabeth II, also designed by Jody Clark. It includes the denomination of the coin of five pounds as legal tender in the UK.
