US Mint

The US mint was founded in 1792 and mints all circulating US-Dollar notes, coins and world-famous gold and silver investment products, such as the American Eagle.

Share :

The Liberty Head “Quarter Eagle” 2.5 dollar gold coin was minted from 1840 to 1907. Each coin contains 90% gold and 10% copper, with a weight of .12094 gold ounces. The 2.5 dollar quarter eagle is one of the most popular and beautifully designed US gold collector coins on the market.

Design

The front side depicts the profile of Lady Liberty with the word “LIBERTY” engraved on her hair band. There are 13 stars that surround the outer edge and represent the 13 original colonies. The date of issue is below the portrait of Lady Liberty.

The reverse side shows an eagle with outstretched wings. In the eagles right claw are oak branches and in the left are arrows. The inscription around the outer edge is “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”. The nominal value can be seen below the eagle and is engraved as “2 ½”. The editions that have a mint mark can be seen to the right of the nominal value.

Mint Marks

These coins were minted at various US Mints, which include Dahlonega (D), Charlotte (C), San Francisco (S) and New Orleans (O). Many of these coins were also minted in Philadelphia, where a mint mark was not used.
