The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, Wales is the world’s leading exporter of coins and medals, exporting to around sixty countries a year. It is also the oldest company in the United Kingdom. It is consistently producing beautiful new editions to its fascinating collections. The Queen’s Beasts Collection aims to bring to life some of Britain's rich history.

The Queen’s Beasts are the ten statues that were present at the coronation of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Each creature represents a piece of history from the lineage of the queen. The White Horse of Hanover is a tribute to George I who was ruler of the German duchy of Hanover and was crowned King of Great Britain and Ireland in 1714. The ceremony had to be conducted mostly in Latin as the king could not speak much English.

The reverse of the coin was skilfully sculpted by designer Jody Clark and displays the horse rearing up, with a flowing mane and a shield at its hooves. The shield bears the emblems of the three lions of England, the lion of Scotland, the fleur-de-lis of France, the Irish harp and the Arms for Hanover. Behind the image is a chainmail background. The artist's initials ‘JC’ are below the shield.

The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, also designed by Jody Clark. Surrounding the image is the inscription ‘ᐧ ELIZABETH II ᐧ  D ᐧ G ᐧ  REG ᐧ  F ᐧ D ᐧ 100 POUNDS’. 100 British pounds is the face value of the coin as it is legal tender in the United Kingdom.

The Queen’s Beasts White Horse of Hanover 1oz Gold Coin 2020 contains 1 troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold which equates to a metric weight of 31.10 grams. It has a diameter of 32.69 mm and a thickness of 2.79 mm.

The coin represents a special part of British history and is therefore a great collector’s piece. Bullion coins from the Royal Mint could also provide a good investment option due to the quality of minting and highly regarded reputation.
