The China Panda coin was introduced in 1982 by the China Banknote Printing and Mining Corporation but it is now the China Gold Coin Incorporation that issues the coins under the People’s Bank of China. The panda is globally recognised as the national animal of China and is a very popular image. The image of the panda is changed each year with new designs eagerly awaited by collectors.

There is also the special logo to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the coin together with the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games, the logo has the numerals 4 and 0 with a panda shown coming out from the 0 looking towards the 4.

The largest building of the complex, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, is easily recognisable with its three huge wooden circular levels. It is said to be a remarkable feat of engineering. The temple was originally named The Temple of Heaven and Earth but it was renamed to the shorter title in the 16th century. In 1998 it was declared a World Heritage Site.
