Albert I was the King of Belgium from 1909 to 1934. The 20 Franc Albert I gold coin was only minted in 1914. The coin was issued in very limited quantities and depicts Albert in his military uniform just before World War I.
Design Highlights
The front side of the coin shows a left side portrait of Albert I. The coin is also referred to as “Albert Military”. Of the 250,000 coins that were minted, 125,000 were produced with French inscriptions and 125,000 were engraved in Flemish.
The reverse side depicts the coat of arms of Belgium. The date of issue “1914” is inscripted below the the coat of arms. The nominal value is on either side of the shield and engraved as “20” and “F”.
