The 1996 “Year of the Mouse” is the first edition in the highly successful Lunar I gold coin program from the Perth Mint. The series was issued from 1996 to 2007 and features 12 unique animal designs from the 12 year Chinese Zodiac.
The Lunar I Mouse 1/10 oz gold coin has a purity of .9999 gold and a limited mintage of 3,792 coins.
The front side of the coin depicts a mouse in a field of rocks and grass. The inscriptions read “1996”, “1/10 OZ 9999 GOLD” and the Chinese character for Mouse.
The reverse side shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as a young women. The engravings around the outer edge are “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA” and 15 DOLLARS”.
