LBMA Good Delivery Gold Bars – The Global Quality Standard
The LBMA Good Delivery category at CelticGold brings together all gold bars whose manufacturers are listed on the London Bullion Market Association's Good Delivery List – the most stringent quality certification in the global precious metals industry. With 14 products, this category represents the broadest and most prestigious selection of investment gold bars at CelticGold.
What is the LBMA Good Delivery List?
The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA, founded 1987) governs the world's largest over-the-counter precious metals market. Its Good Delivery Rules establish the minimum technical requirements for gold bars that can be traded without quality verification on the international market.
Technical Requirements for Good Delivery Gold Bars
Requirement
Standard
Weight (large bars)
350–430 troy oz (10.9–13.4 kg)
Fineness
Minimum 995.0/1,000
Serial number
Mandatory, individually stamped
Manufacturer stamp
Mandatory
Year of manufacture
Mandatory
Weight
Stamped in troy ounces
For private investor bars (1g–1kg), the same refiner quality standards apply even though the weight format differs from the institutional large bar.
Admission Requirements for Refiners
To be accepted on the LBMA Good Delivery List, a refiner must demonstrate:
At least 10 years of active refining experience
Annual production capacity of at least 10 tonnes of gold
Passing of independent fire assay tests by accredited laboratories
Compliance with OECD Responsible Sourcing guidelines
Proven financial stability
Once listed, refiners are subject to Proactive Monitoring – re-testing every three years by external auditors. Failure to comply results in removal from the list.
Why does LBMA certification matter for private investors?
An LBMA-certified bar is accepted without quality verification by every reputable bullion dealer worldwide. Non-certified bars may face price discounts or outright refusal. At CelticGold, only LBMA-certified bars are sold.
Is 999.9/1,000 required for Good Delivery?
No – the minimum is 995/1,000 for institutional large bars. However, all CelticGold bars meet 999.9/1,000 (four nines fineness) – the highest commercially available standard.
