🇸🇴 Somalia Elephant 2017 – 1 oz Silver Coin – African Nature in Calm Minting
The Somalia Elephant 2017 – 1 oz silver coin belongs to one of the best-known modern silver coin series dedicated to the depiction of African wildlife. Since its introduction, the series has been recognized for a clear and calm visual language, continually reinterpreting the elephant motif in new designs. The 2017 issue follows this tradition and presents the animal in a balanced composition supported by precise line work, calm surfaces, and the natural effect of silver.
The obverse shows the coat of arms of Somalia, consisting of a shield with a star held by two leopards. This depiction is clearly structured and objectively executed. The lines of the emblem are precisely modeled, while the surrounding inscriptions indicate the issuing country, the denomination, and the year of issue 2017. The lettering integrates evenly into the surface, leaving the metal space to unfold its bright and calm appearance.
The reverse shows the elephant as the central motif of the coin. The animal appears in a natural posture, conveying a sense of strength and composure through its calm presence. The powerful body, the long trunk, and the distinct contours are finely executed. The skin texture is subtly modeled, giving the motif sculptural depth without overloading the overall composition. The background is deliberately restrained, allowing the elephant to stand clearly at the center of the design.
The line work of the relief is precise and calm. Light and shadow move gently across the surface, creating a subtle spatial effect. Integrated into the reverse are the inscriptions 1 oz weight and 999 silver, discreetly and clearly embedded in the coin design. These details integrate harmoniously into the composition and do not disturb the calm visual effect of the motif.
The 1 oz denomination offers sufficient space to display the details of the motif clearly. The silver appears in a bright, even luster that emphasizes the precision of the minting work. The surface looks calm and balanced, while the relief heights are clearly defined. The cleanly finished rim integrates unobtrusively into the overall image and provides a harmonious finish to the coin.
The Somalia Elephant series combines nature-based symbolism with modern minting technology. The elephant stands for endurance, strength, and composure—qualities reflected in the calm depiction of this coin. The 2017 issue continues this tradition and preserves the clear style that has made the series internationally recognized.
The Somalia Elephant 2017 – 1 oz silver coin unites a nature motif, precise minting craftsmanship, and the quiet presence of silver. It presents the elephant as a powerful yet calm image of African wildlife, combining clear design with timeless symbolism.
