The Queen’s Beasts bullion coin series from the Royal Mint features the ten beasts that stood guard at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Each one of the designs in the series symbolize the Queen’s royal line of ancestry.

- The 2019 Unicorn of Scotland 10 oz silver coin is the 4th edition in the Queen’s Beasts series and has a fineness of 999.9/1000 silver.
- The front side of the coin depicts a Unicorn standing on its hind legs holding a shield with its hoof. The Unicorn has a coronet around its neck which is meant to show that a great beast has been tamed to serve the King. The engravings read “UNICORN OF SCOTLAND”, “10 OZ FINE SILVER 999.9” and “2019”.
- The reverse side shows the rights side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with crown and earring. The initials “JC” are engraved below the portrait of the Queen and represent artist and engraver Jody Clark. The inscriptions around the outer edge are the the nominal value “10 POUNDS”, the name of the regent “ELIZABETH II” and the latin abbreviation “D G REG F D”.
Unicorn of Scotland
In the design the Unicorn holds the Royal Arms of Scotland, which has not changed since the reign of Scottish King Alexander III. In heraldry, the chains shown around the Unicorn symbolize power and strength.
James I of England unified the English and Scottish monarchs and chose the Scottish Unicorn along with the Lion of England to support the Royal Arms.
