The 2017 1oz Silver Lynx is the second coin in the "Predator" series produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. The series began in 2016 and will include 4 coins that highlight predator mammals in North America.
Each coin in the series consists of 1 ounce of .9999 fine silver. Because of the uniqueness of the predator series the coins are ideal for both collectors and investors. The 2017 Silver Lynx has a limited mintage of 500,000 coins.
Fine Weight and Fineness
The Predator Lynx silver coin 2017 has a fine weight of 1oz with a fineness of 999.9/1000. The high level of pure silver content makes this coin particularly sensitive to scratches, which is why we recommend leaving the coin in its protective cover.

Appearance
The silver coin has a border and a corrugated edge. The edge provides the coin with the necessary stability, protects the motif from damage and improves the stackability. The 2017 Silver Lynx also has cutting edge security features to prevent against counterfeiting.
The security features include a small maple leaf with the number "17" engraved under the motif by a laser, and radial lines on both sides of the coin.
Motif Side
The motif side of the "Lynx 2017" silver coin shows the animal leaping in the air towards his prey. Below the motif is a small laser engraved maple leaf with the number "17".
On the upper edge of the motif side the country of issued "CANADA" as well as the fineness "9999" are shown. In the lower area is the fine weight "1 OZ", framed by the English and French name for fine silver: "FINE SILVER" and "ARGENT PUR".
The initials "ED" can be seen on the right side of the motif. "ED" stands for Emily Damstra, the Canadian artist and designer of the two previously released Predator coins.
Value Side
The value side of the Predator Lynx 2017 depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait of the Queen is a popular motif on all commonwealth coins. In the portrait she wears a drop-shaped earring and a pearl necklace.
The portrait was designed by Susanna Blunt and can be seen on the value side of all Canadian coins. The initials of Susanna Blunt, "SB", can be seen on the left shoulder of the queen.
The inscription shows the name of the regent of the United Kingdom "Elizabeth II", the nominal value "5 Dollars", the year of mintage "2017" and "D G Regina" meaning "Queen by God's grace" (Dei Gratia Regina).
Predator Series Silver Coins
In 2016 the Royal Canadian Mint launched the new Predator Silver coin series. The Predator series will run from 2016 to 2019 and celebrates some of Canada’s most impressive animals of prey. The first two coins in the series are the 2016 Silver Cougar and the 2017 Silver Lynx.
The Predator series was first presented at the "World Money Fair 2016" in Berlin. It is the direct successor to the very successful "Canadian Wildlife" series from 2011-2013 and the "Birds of Prey" series from 2014-2015.
