The Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt (Bavarian State Mint), located in Munich, is one of the oldest still-operating mints in Germany. Officially established in 1871, its origins date back to the 12th century.
Today, the mint is responsible for producing German circulation, commemorative, and collector coins on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Finance. Coins minted in Munich bear the mint mark “D”.
In addition to official coins, the Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt also produces medals, awards, and custom special issues for both private and institutional clients. It represents precision, craftsmanship, and centuries-old minting tradition.

The 2025 Somalia Elephant from the renowned African Wildlife series continues its legacy of striking designs and exceptional craftsmanship. Minted in Germany by the Bavarian Mint since 2004 and available in gold since 2010, this annual release is a favourite among both collectors and investors. Each year, the same new design is featured on both the gold and silver editions of the coin.
The reverse of the Somalia Elephant 1 oz Gold Coin 2025 showcases a magnificent elephant traversing the African savannah. Acacia trees stand in the background with the sun shining down on the scene. The elephant’s finely detailed textured skin and imposing tusks highlight the exceptional craftsmanship of the mint. The design is encircled by the inscriptions “AFRICAN WILDLIFE”, “ELEPHANT” and “1 oz Au 999.9”, indicating its purity and precious metal content.
On the obverse, the Somalian coat of arms takes centre stage, flanked by the year “20” and “25”. The inscriptions include “SOMALIA REPUBLIC” above and the face value of “1.000 SHILLINGS” below. The design is encircled with decorative beading.
The Somalia Elephant 1 oz Gold Coin 2025 is minted from 1 troy ounce of 999.9/1000 pure gold and has a fine weight of 31.10 grams. It has a diameter of 38.70 mm. The coin is also available in weights of ½ oz, ¼ oz and 1/10 oz in gold and 1 kg and 1 oz in silver.
