The Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt (Bavarian State Mint), located in Munich, is one of the oldest still-operating mints in Germany. Officially established in 1871, its origins date back to the 12th century.
Today, the mint is responsible for producing German circulation, commemorative, and collector coins on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Finance. Coins minted in Munich bear the mint mark “D”.
In addition to official coins, the Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt also produces medals, awards, and custom special issues for both private and institutional clients. It represents precision, craftsmanship, and centuries-old minting tradition.

The “Somalia Elephant” 1/10 oz 2024 of the “African Wildlife” series is offered in brilliant uncirculated (BU) quality and has been available since 2016. Other BU sizes available are 10 ounces, 1 ounce, 1/25 ounce, 1/50 ounce and since 2017, ½ ounce, ¼ ounce and 0.5 grams. The motif for both - gold and silver - editions are the same.
The “Somalia Elephant” 1/10 oz Gold Coin 2024 is 99.99% pure, weighs 3.11 grams and has a diameter of 20.00 mm.
The 2024 edition shows two bull elephants fighting on the motif side with the scene depicted in great detail. The inscription around the image reads "AFRICAN WILDLIFE" "ELEPHANT" and "1/10 oz Au 999.9".
The value side shows the national coat of arms of Somalia. The year, the country of issue and the face value of “100 SHILLINGS” is also displayed on this side.
