🇸🇴 Somalia Elephant 2023 – 1/4 oz Gold Coin – African Wildlife in Fine Gold Minting

The Somalia Elephant 2023 – 1/4 oz gold coin belongs to the well-known African Wildlife series, which presents African elephants in annually changing designs. This coin program combines nature-inspired motifs with modern minting techniques and a clear, calm visual language. Even in the smaller denomination, the concept of the series remains intact: the elephant is depicted in a new scene each year and always forms the central motif of the coin.

The obverse shows the coat of arms of Somalia. Two leopards support a shield bearing a five-pointed star, beneath which appear crossed spears and palm fronds. Around the rim are the inscriptions for the issuing country, the denomination, and the year of issue 2023. The depiction is clearly structured and precisely executed. The restrained design of the value side leaves space for the gold surface, creating a balanced overall appearance.

The reverse features the African elephant as the central motif of the coin. As with every issue in the series, the animal is presented in a new composition, usually placed within its natural environment. The powerful body, the characteristic trunk, and the distinct contours are finely modeled. The design focuses on the natural presence of the animal, avoiding overly elaborate backgrounds so that the elephant remains clearly at the center of the composition.

Along the rim of the design side appear the inscriptions AFRICAN WILDLIFE and ELEPHANT, as well as the weight and fineness of the precious metal. The coin consists of 1/4 oz of fine gold with a purity of 999.9 and carries a face value of 200 Somali Shillings. Despite its smaller size, the coin displays carefully executed detail work.

The 1/4 oz denomination offers a compact format in which the motif still appears clear and sculptural. Light moves across the finely modeled relief structures, giving the gold surface a calm and even appearance. The contours of the elephant and the texture of its skin are precisely rendered, adding subtle depth to the depiction.

The African Wildlife – Elephant series is known for its annually changing elephant motifs, combining nature depiction with modern coin design. Each release presents a new interpretation of the elephant while maintaining the characteristic style of the series.

The Somalia Elephant 2023 – 1/4 oz gold coin combines the warm radiance of gold with a calm depiction of African wildlife. It portrays the elephant as a powerful yet composed symbol of the savanna, struck in gold and designed with clarity, structure, and timeless elegance.
