The Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt (Bavarian State Mint), located in Munich, is one of the oldest still-operating mints in Germany. Officially established in 1871, its origins date back to the 12th century.
Today, the mint is responsible for producing German circulation, commemorative, and collector coins on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Finance. Coins minted in Munich bear the mint mark “D”.

The Somalia Elephant Gold Coin is part of the African Wildlife Series, introduced in 2008 it features a fresh design each year.
The 2022 Somalia Elephant ½ oz gold coin motif depicts an elephant cow and her calf traversing the African savannah under the afternoon sun. In the background you can see birds, umbrella acacia trees and mountains, and in the foreground the grass is beautifully detailed. The coin is inscribed with the name, weight and purity of the gold and has a fluted edge which adds to its aesthetic appeal.
On the value side, the coin displays the Somali coat of arms, with the year of issue split, either side of the image, 20 and 22. The country ‘SOMALI REPUBLIC’ is inscribed in the legend at the top with ’500 SHILLINGS’ along the bottom. The coin is legal tender in Somalia.
The Somalia Elephant ½ oz Gold Coin 2022 contains half a troy ounce of gold with a purity 999.9/1000 and has a metric weight of 15.55 grams. It measures 33.00 mm in diameter. It is also available in 1oz, ¼ oz and 1/10 oz in gold and 1oz in fine silver.
