Design / Appearance
The 2013 issue of the Somalia Elephant shows an elephant family, consisting of a bull, a dam, and a young elephant on the shore drinking from a pond. In the background is an acacia tree. The contrasting edge frame highlights the motif. The engravings in the margin are "AFRICAN WILDLIFE ● ELEPHANT ● 1oz Au 999".
The value page shows the official coat of arms of the Republic of Somalia since 1956. The coat of arms is carried by two leopards standing upright on crossed spears. The coat of arms is set in a shield with a five-pointed crown.
The issuing country "SOMALI REPUBLIC" is titled in the upper half of the marginal area, and in the lower half the denomination "1000 SHILLINGS" is shown. To the left and right of the leopard, the year is shown in the middle. A circle of dots adorns the outer edge of the value side bordering. The coin edge of the Somalia Elephant Gold coins is ribbed.
