The Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt (Bavarian State Mint), located in Munich, is one of the oldest still-operating mints in Germany. Officially established in 1871, its origins date back to the 12th century.
Today, the mint is responsible for producing German circulation, commemorative, and collector coins on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Finance. Coins minted in Munich bear the mint mark “D”.
In addition to official coins, the Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt also produces medals, awards, and custom special issues for both private and institutional clients. It represents precision, craftsmanship, and centuries-old minting tradition.

The 2011 edition is the second release of the Somalia Elephant Gold Series. The Somalia Elephant 1 oz Gold coin has been issued since 2010 and follows from the success of the Silver issue.
The coins contain 1 oz of pure 99.9% gold and have a diameter of 38.7 mm. The annually changing motifs add to the global appeal of the series. The Somalia Elephant series is produced by the Bavarian State Mint in Germany and has been gaining in popularity with both investors and collectors.
The 2011 Somalia Elephant Gold Coin can be purchased tax free.

The Somalia Elephant 1oz Gold Coin 2011 shows a mother elephant with her cub. The baby elephant is being led by the trunk of the mother. The elephants are depicted wandering in the African steppe. The afternoon sun can be seen in the upper right quarter. The inscription "AFRICAN WILDLIFE ● ELEPHANT ● 1oz Au 999" can be seen in the remote edge area.
Value Page:
The value page shows the state emblem of the Republic of Somalia. The coat of arms is held by two leopards and has a five-pointed heathen crown. The coat of arms is framed on both sides by the numbers "20" and "11", which is the year of issue. Above the motif is the country of issue engraved as "SOMALI REPUBLIC". Underneath the coat of arms is the nominal value "1000 Shillings". The edge bar is surrounded by a circle of dots.
