20 Luxembourgian Francs 150th Independence Day Gold Coin 1989
Institut Monetaire Luxembourgeois
The Institut Monétaire Luxembourgeois (IML) was established in 1983 and served as Luxembourg’s central bank until the introduction of the euro in 1999. It was responsible for issuing the Luxembourg franc, supervising the banking sector, and maintaining price and financial stability in the country. With the creation of the European Central Bank (ECB) and Luxembourg’s entry into the Eurozone, most of the IML’s responsibilities were transferred to the Banque centrale du Luxembourg, founded in 1998. The IML played a key role in shaping Luxembourg’s modern financial system.
