Design
The front of the American Eagle features the famous image of “Lady Liberty” which first appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle coin in 1907. Lady Liberty is depicted holding a torch in her right hand and an oliver branch in her left hand. To the right of Lady Liberty the year “2017” is embossed.
The reverse side of the coin shows a male eagle flying towards his nest. Also displayed are a female eagle and her hatchlings. The design was created in 1986 by sculptor Miley Busiek. The engravings on the back side of the coin are as follows:
