American Eagle 1oz Gold Coin 2012
US Mint
The US mint was founded in 1792 and mints all circulating US-Dollar notes, coins and world-famous gold and silver investment products, such as the American Eagle.
The American Eagle shows the statue of liberty obverse and the Eagle inverse of the coin. This lovely coin along with the Krugerrand, Maple Leaf and Vienna Philharmonics one of the most respected and popular coins sold worldwide; minted by the United States Mint since 1986.
The design comes from Adolph A. Weinman who created the “Walking Liberty” design 1916 which was used for the ½ Dollar coins. Inverse the coin was designed by John M. Mercanti who worked until 2011 for the United States Mint.
The Eagle is minted in different denominations from 1/10oz to 1oz with a purity of 916.7/1000 or 22 karat. But each coin contains 1oz or the fraction of pure gold and the weight of the coin is therefore higher.
The United States Mint produced about 1.2 million ounces of the Eagle coin in 2010 .
