Rand Refinery (Pty) Ltd, located in Germiston, South Africa, was founded in 1920 by the Chamber of Mines. It is the world’s largest integrated single-site precious metals refinery and smelter. The obverse of the Krugerrand 1/10 oz Gold Coin 2025 features a portrait of Paul Kruger, originally designed by Otto Schultz in 1892, along with the inscriptions “SUID-AFRIKA” in Afrikaans and “SOUTH AFRICA” in English.
On the reverse of the coin is the famous springbok antelope, accompanied by the inscription “KRUGERRAND”. The year of mintage and the coin’s weight are also displayed.
The gold purity of the Krugerrand is 917/1000 as the coin has a high copper content. This makes it more durable and gives it the distinctive reddish colour. It is recognised as legal tender in South Africa despite not showing a face value.
The Krugerrand 1/10 oz Gold Coin 2025 is minted from a tenth of a troy ounce of fine gold and has a fine weight of 3.11 grams. It has a diameter of 16.50 mm and a thickness of 1.35 mm. The Krugerrand is also available in weights of 1 oz, ½ oz and ¼ oz in gold and 1 oz in silver.
