Rand Refinery (Pty) Ltd, based in Germiston, South Africa, was founded in 1920 by the Chamber of Mines. It is the world’s largest integrated single-site precious metals refining and smelting complex.
Its main function is the refining of raw gold to a purity of at least 99.5%, which is then used for cast or minted bar products, or as raw material for the production of Krugerrand coins.

The obverse of the Krugerrand 1/10 oz Gold Coin 2024 displays Otto Schultz’s 1892 image of former South African President Paul Kruger. The words "SUID-AFRIKA ᐧ SOUTH AFRICA" are inscribed in the coin’s legend.
The reverse features a pronking springbok antelope, which is native to South Africa. The words "KRUGERRAND" and year of mintage are also displayed on the reverse together with the weight of the coin.
The Krugerrand 1/10 oz Gold Coin 2024 has a purity of 917/1000. It is minted from 1/10 troy ounce of fine gold and has a fine weight of 3.11 grams. It has a diameter of 16.50 mm and a thickness of 1.35 mm. The Krugerrand is also available in weights of 1oz, ½ oz and ¼ oz in gold and 1oz in silver.
The Krugerrand has gained international recognition and is widely traded for investment purposes. Its popularity stems from its gold content, historical significance, and the fact that it was one of the first modern bullion coins.
