Krugerrand 1/2oz Gold Coin 2023
Rand Refinery
The Rand Refinery was the inventor of the standard 1oz investment gold coin. With the launch of the Krugerrand in 1967 it still produces the most well-known gold coin in the world today.
Krugerrand gold coins are the world’s top selling bullion coins with continued popularity over the years. Sought after by both investors and collectors due to their consistent reputation for both quality craftsmanship and reliability.
The Krugerrand 2023 1/2 oz gold coin has a gold content of 15.55 grams, which corresponds to exactly half a troy ounce of gold, the fineness of the Krügerrand is 916.67/1000, which equates to 22 karats. The coins contain 8.34% copper which is why they have such good scratch resistance, it is this copper content that also gives the Krügerrand its famous reddish-gold colouring.
The appearance of the Krügerrand has remained the same since its introduction in 1967, with changes only made to the year and the weight on the reverse. The obverse of the coin displays the profile of Paul Krueger, President of the Republic of South Africa (1882-1902). The reverse shows the familiar depiction of the springbok antelope designed by Coert Steynberg in 1947.
