Rand Refinery
The Rand Refinery was the inventor of the standard 1oz investment gold coin. With the launch of the Krugerrand in 1967 it still produces the most well-known gold coin in the world today.
Introduced in 1967, the Krugerrand has become one of the most successful gold bullion coins in the world. Some editions were produced in smaller numbers. These limited mintage editions are becoming more popular with collectors.
The 2003 Krugerrand was one of the yearly issues that had a limited mintage.
Design

The front side of the coin depicts the profile of Paul Kruger, the former 4 term President of the South African Republic. The Inscriptions around the outer edge read “SUID-AFRIKA” and “SOUTH AFRICA”.

The reverse side shows the South African Springbok Antelope in its natural environment. The date of issue is on either side of the antelope and reads: “20” (on left) and “03” (on right).
