Founded in 1194, the Austrian Mint is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious mints, best known for its Vienna Philharmonic series, launched in 1989. ​​The obverse of the 2025 Vienna Philharmonic ½ oz Gold Coin features an intricate depiction of the Great Organ of the Vienna Musikverein and includes the inscription “REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH” together with the coin’s weight, purity and year of issue. It also displays a “50 EURO” face value and is recognised as legal tender.

The reverse of the coin displays a number of orchestral musical instruments, including a cello, four violins, a bassoon, a harp and a Viennese horn. On this side the inscription reads “WIENER PHILHARMONIKER”.

The Vienna Philharmonic ½ oz Gold Coin 2025 contains half a troy ounce of 999.9/1000 fine gold which is equivalent to 15.55 grams of 24 karat gold. It measures 28.00 mm in diameter and is 1.60 mm thick. The coin is also available in weights of 1 oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz and 1/25 oz in gold and 1 oz in fine silver.
