The Vienna Philharmonic has been popular in Europe since 1989 and the 1/25 oz gold coin has been on the market since 2014. The first edition of the 1/25 ounce consisted of 78,551 pieces. It is made of 24 karat fine gold with a fineness of 999.9/1000 and a fine weight of 1.24 g. The diameter of the coin is 13.00 mm with a thickness of 1.2 mm. The 24 karat fine gold makes this soft precious metal susceptible to scratches if stored improperly.
The famous image of the Vienna Music Association organ is displayed on the obverse with the inscription “REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH” and directly below the motif it says “1/25 UNZE GOLD 999.9” and below that is the year of minting. Also on the edge in the lower area is the face value of “4 EURO” for the 1/25 oz variant. The reverse displays the popular image of the instruments from the orchestra.
