Queen Victoria Sovereign gold coin were issued from 1838-1901 and are an important part of British history. The Sovereign Victoria “Young Head” gold coin was Minted between 1871 and 1887. The inscriptions around the outer edge are in Latin and read “VICTORIA D: G: BRITANNIAR REG: F : D :” This translates as “Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of Britain, Defender of the Faith”. The reverse side depicts the famous image of St. George on horseback slaying the dragon, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. The date of issue is engraved below the motif.
